Joint Secretary Ministry of MSME reviews SFURTI clusters of North Eastern Region

A review meeting of “Scheme for Regeneration of Traditional Industries” (SFURTI) was held on 17th and 18th November, 2021 in IIE-Guwahati under the chairmanship of Joint Secretary Smt.  Alka Arora, ARI.   The review meeting was also attended by Shri Supriyo Ghosh, Director, ARI, Mr. Duyu Tamu, Chairman Member, North East Zonal, KVIC, Dr. Sanjib Roy, Director, SFURTI, KVIC and Dr. Santanu Mohan Deka, Associate Faculty, IIE, senior officials of various nodal agencies of different states, implementing agencies and technical agencies and other stakeholders of SFURTI project. The meeting initiated with an objective to review North -East cluster’s outcome and focused mainly in income generation of artisans and along with livelihood promotion and sustainable development.

Joint Secretary Smt.  Alka Arora, ARI appraised the progress of clusters that already been functional under SFURTI and also made an assessment in comparison of before and after SFURTI intervention.  The meet mainly focused on outcome of the SFURTI scheme, new product development, value addition of all the SFURTI cluster’s products, marketing of the products in both domestic and international markets. Importance was also given on export promotion of the products from the North Eastern Region to the rest of the world. The meet also focused on systematic follow up concerning thematic intervention of the scheme and voluntary participation in various exhibitions held in different parts of the country.

The Director, (ARI) expressed his view on the product development based on traditional designs and its usage as per demand of the present day world. The traditional designs and materials also can be transformed in such a way that modern market can also be captured in the long run, he said.  

The meeting was concluded with a field visit of IIE- SFURTI cluster at Kokrajhar by the officials of MSME.
