Stakeholder Workshop for Pilot Project on Entrepreneurship Development in the Holy City of Bodh Gaya, Bihar

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India had conceptualised a Project on Entrepreneurship Promotion and Mentoring of Small Businesses in six temple towns in the country. The identified cities are – Puri, Varanasi, Haridwar, Kollur (Karnataka), Pandharpur (Maharashtra) and Bodh Gaya (Bihar). Out of the six temple towns, IIE has been assigned to implement the project in the Temple Towns of Puri, Bodh Gaya and Kollur.

The objectives of the project is to promote micro and small businesses in the Holy cities through mentoring and handholding support to new and existing entrepreneurs (with or without credit history), woman entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs from marginal communities and specially abled groups etc. and help them in setting up and scaling up enterprises by developing forward and backward linkage, establish linkage with banks, Micro Finance Institutions etc. 

The expected outcomes are growth of economic activities and employment opportunities, increased number of self- employment and development of a validated model for economic development and tourism at the end of the project.

IIE started necessary work from the month of January’2021 and a project management unit was setup in Plot No-157, Sujata Nagar, Domohan, Bodh Gaya, Gaya for implementation of the project

A stakeholder workshop was held at Bodh Gaya on 24th March 2021 with various representatives from different institutes/government departments and organizations, working in Gaya. The objective of the workshop was to disseminate information about the project and to seek their feedback/inputs on the same along with exploring scope of convergence of different Govt. schemes available for entrepreneurs.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Ajit Kumar Sinha, Deputy Director of Employment Exchange, Gaya, Govt. of Bihar. SDRC Pvt Ltd (Local Implementing Agency) gave a presentation on progress of the work which was followed by a brainstorming session for successful implementation of the project.

The event was attended by more than 40 participants representing NULM, Bihar Skill Development Mission, Jeevika, Lead Bank, RSETI, Employment Exchange, Directorate of Industries, Tourist Guide Association of Bihar, Operator of Common Service Centre, Mentors and entrepreneurs. The meeting was also attended by journalists from print and electronic media to give a wide coverage about the project.

IIE was represented by a three member team of Shri Utpal Bayan, Shri Nilutpal Kashyap and Shri Sanjeeb Kakati.
