Sericulture is an important source of livelihood for the rural communities of North East India. Assam is the major producer of silk compared to other states of North East including India. Many policies and schemes have been implemented by the government to uplift the sericulture sector as well as the livelihood status of the sericulturist of the region, among which the Catalytic Development Programme is worth mentioning. Therefore in order to access the effectiveness of the programme, IIE is conducting an ‘Impact Assessment Study on Catalytic Development Programme throughout the North Eastern States’ since December 2014 funded by Central Silk Board, Guwahati. As a part of study, primary data have been already collected from the entire North East States including the two Autonomous Councils of Assam.
